Bachelor’s degree in the specialty 035 ‘Philology’.
Bachelor’s degree in other specialties, subject to passing an additional qualifying entrance examination.

Conditioned upon passing the final assessment with marks of 75 or above, the following professional qualifications are assigned: 1) ‘Linguist’; 2) ‘Translator (French–Ukrainian)’ if the elective discipline block ‘Language Contacts and Translation in the Francophone World’ is chosen, or ‘Higher Education Lecturer (French)’ if the elective discipline block ‘Communication Practices in the Francophone World and Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages’ is chosen.

A full list of learning outcomes for the programme is provided under the item ‘Programme Profile’. Some of these are: LLO 1. To evaluate one’s own academic and professional activities, and to develop and implement an effective strategy for self-development and professional improvement. LLO 2. To have a confident proficiency in the national and foreign languages for written and oral communication, particularly in professional and academic contexts; to present research results in the national and foreign languages. LLO 3. Apply modern methodologies and technologies, particularly information technologies, for the successful and effective performance of professional activities and to ensure the quality of research in the field of French linguistics and translation. LLO 4. Assess and critically analyse socially, personally and professionally significant issues and propose solutions to them in complex and unpredictable conditions, which requires the application of new approaches and forecasting. LLO 5. Identify optimal ways of effective interaction within a professional team and with representatives of other professional groups at various levels. LLO 6. Apply knowledge of expressive, emotional and logical language tools and speech techniques to achieve the intended pragmatic outcome and organise successful communication.

Full-time form

Exams, tests, differentiated tests, current control, assessment (final) exams, and the defence of the Master’s thesis. Final assessment of learning outcomes is carried out on a single 100-point scale. The student’s mark corresponds to the established level of development of professional and general competences relative to the planned learning outcomes (expressed as a percentage). Where necessary, the following conversion scale is applied to marks awarded under the five-point grading system When transferring credits obtained at other educational institutions, the recommendations of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) are applied (unless otherwise provided by a bilateral agreement). Violations of academic liberty and integrity are not permitted

The research internship involves participation in research projects and academic publication. The assistant internship involves delivering lectures and practical sessions at a higher education institution in accordance with the syllabuses of the relevant academic disciplines. The translation internship involves oral and written translation in accordance with the operational requirements of the host institution. Internships take place at the Centre for French Language of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the Association of French Language Teachers of Ukraine, in publishing houses, the media, translation agencies, etc.

A Master's degree holder in Philology can work in the academic and educational sectors; in teaching, research and administrative positions in higher education institutions and research institutes of Ukraine; in print and electronic media, travel agencies, journalism, television, public relations, and various humanitarian-oriented funds, associations and foundations, as well as engage in translation and research work.

The opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies under the FQ-EHEA third-cycle programme, EQF-LLL Level 8 and NQF Level 8 and to acquire additional qualifications within the postgraduate education system.
