Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Completion of the following courses: ‘Ancient Literature’, ‘History of French Literature’.
2. Knowledge of theoretical foundations: literary studies, translation studies, the fundamentals of classical French literature, and the contribution of key figures in French literature to world literature.
3. Proficiency in methods of literary and translation analysis of literary texts.
4. Ability to: carry out basic literary analysis of literary texts, distinguish between literary periods, movements, styles and phenomena, and read excerpts from literary texts in French at language proficiency levels B1–C2.
Course content
The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the distinctive features of contemporary and recent literary phenomena within the current French-language literary landscape, as well as with the cultural-historical, social and artistic-aesthetic factors that shape these processes in their theoretical and methodological connections with the history of French literature, literary studies and, to some extent, translation studies; to deepen the skills of literary-critical analysis acquired during previous years of study; to expand the ability to interpret contemporary postcolonial French-language literary texts with distinct postcolonial, multicultural and transcultural components, as well as to apply the cultural and aesthetic potential of the acquired body of knowledge, skills and competences in future professional philological and translation work.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures and seminars, individual work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final course mark is calculated as the sum of marks from continuous assessment and does not involve any additional final assessment tasks.
Forms of continuous assessment include responses during seminars (max 50 / min 30 marks), the preparation of two creative essays (max 20 / min 10 marks) and the completion of a final assessment (max 30 / min 20 marks). In total, the forms of final assessment account for a maximum of 100 points (minimum 60 points).
Students who have not achieved a minimum of 60 points during the semester must write a final examination of increased difficulty.
