Successful completion of the theoretical and practical modules of the professional training programme, including courses such as ‘French’, ‘Introduction to Translation Studies’, ‘Theory and Practice of Translation’, ‘Linguistic and Cultural Realities in Translation’, ‘Translation Techniques’, ‘History and Theory of Translation (French)’, etc.
Course content
The course ‘Contrastive Linguistics and Translation’ is a compulsory module and is taught in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd semesters of the Master’s programme, in accordance with the curriculum of the ‘Francophone Studies and Translation, English Language’ educational and research programme. It concludes with examinations in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd semesters. The course aims to equip students with the fundamentals of written and oral translation practice using French and Ukrainian language materials, with a view to their subsequent application in various linguistic and cultural spheres of French and Ukrainian language use. The course highlights the main principles and methods of translation in various spheres of Francophone and Ukrainian linguocultural contexts. This course is designed to develop the ability to perform translation analysis with a view to producing high-quality translations. The practical component of the course develops skills in interpreting and translating from French into Ukrainian and vice versa.

Assessment methods and criteria
Throughout the semester, following lectures on the relevant topics, practical sessions are held, during which assessment takes place in accordance with the types of work and forms of assessment described in section 7.1 of the Course Syllabus. The course concludes with a final assessment at the end of the semester. The final semester mark is composed of marks obtained by the student during the completion of the specified types and forms of assessment and those obtained in the examination. The maximum distribution is carried out according to the following algorithm: 80 marks (80%) – semester assessment and 20 marks (20%) – final assessment.
