Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before starting this course, Master’s students should be familiar with the basic methods of linguistic research, in line with the core competencies expected of Bachelor’s graduates. Be able to explain the specific features of the main general and specialised linguistic research methods covered in the bachelor’s degree programme. Possess basic skills in organising and conducting independent research, whilst adhering to intellectual property requirements.
Course content
The aim of the course is to provide comprehensive knowledge of the methodology and organisation of scientific research, the use of methodological tools and terminology, and the consideration of the specific features of formulating a scientific problem and planning approaches to its solution, depending on the scientific paradigm. The course is taught in the second semester of the Master’s programme, in accordance with the curriculum. The subject matter of the course is the principles of planning, organising and conducting scientific research using a range of research methods, as well as conceptual and categorical frameworks, depending on the scientific paradigm.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, practical sessions, individual work
Assessment methods and criteria
Throughout the semester, following lectures on the relevant topics, practical sessions are held during which assessment takes place in accordance with the types of work and forms of assessment described in section 7.1 of the Course Syllabus. The final mark for the course (maximum 100 / minimum 60 marks) is determined as the sum of marks for systematic work throughout the semester, taking into account assessment tests. The pass mark is awarded based on the student’s performance throughout the entire semester and does not require any additional assessment measures. Students who have accumulated a total of fewer points than the critical minimum – 60 points – must, in order to pass the course, complete the missed topics in written form and submit them to the lecturer conducting the seminar sessions, either in person or by email. Students must make up for any outstanding work one week before the start of the examination period.
