Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of the key issues in contemporary linguistics and the principles of cognitive, applied and functional linguistics; the ability to identify functional styles of speech, determine types of discourse and speech genres, and analyse their specific features; the ability to interpret the results of linguistic experiments and carry out cognitive and conceptual analysis of texts in various styles. Proficiency in French at C1 level.
Course content
The aim is to develop a body of theoretical and methodological knowledge regarding the mental processes underlying the production and perception of speech; to familiarise students with how language influences human consciousness; and to explore the nature of language as a powerful tool for managing human verbal and non-verbal behaviour. ‘Psycholinguistics’ is taught in the fourth semester of the Master’s programme – in accordance with the curriculum of the educational and research programme. The subject of study is language as a psychophysiological process of generating and perceiving utterances and as the primary means of carrying out verbal and individual cognitive activity.

Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment takes place throughout the semester in accordance with the types of work and forms of assessment described in section 7.1. A pass mark is awarded based on the student’s performance throughout the semester and does not require any additional assessment. Students who have achieved the minimum passing mark of 60 points receive a ‘pass’. Students who have not achieved the minimum passing mark of 60 points receive a ‘fail’. Students who have scored a total of less than 60 marks over the semester must, in order to pass the course, cover the material on the topics where they are behind by writing independent assignments, essays or, if necessary, a test.
