Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before starting this course, students should be familiar with the key concepts of contemporary linguoculturology, communicative linguistics, translation studies and linguopragmatics; the linguopragmatic characteristics and types of communicative strategies and tactics; and the specific ways in which these are applied in various social practices within French linguoculture; the main translation strategies and tactics in various spheres of communication; the main concepts of translation studies in their diachronic and synchronic aspects within various foreign and domestic traditions; and the main issues in contemporary translation studies.
Course content
The aim of the course is to supplement the theoretical knowledge acquired in the introduction to translation studies, lexicology, stylistics, text linguistics, neo-rhetoric, and the theory and practice of translation with the fundamental theoretical principles of linguoculturology and translation studies. The subject of study is the linguocultural aspect of contemporary communicative linguistics and translation studies of the modern French language in synchrony and diachrony, and in comparison with the Ukrainian paradigm. The course aims to explore the patterns of development in linguocultural studies and intercultural communication, particularly in relation to translation; provides an overview of the paradigm of contemporary linguocultural studies and trends in this field from a synchronic and diachronic perspective, and explores the characteristics of the development of intercultural communication; develops skills in analysing the linguocultural features of the French cultural paradigm in comparison with the Ukrainian variant.

Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment takes place throughout the semester in accordance with the types of work and forms of assessment described in section 7.1. A pass mark is awarded based on the student’s performance throughout the semester and does not require any additional assessment. Students who have achieved the minimum passing mark of 60 points receive a ‘pass’. Students who have not achieved the minimum passing mark of 60 points receive a ‘fail’. Students who have scored a total of less than 60 marks over the semester must, in order to pass the course, cover the material on the topics where they are behind by writing independent assignments, essays or, if necessary, a test.
