Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the theoretical and practical modules of the professional training programme, including the following subjects from the linguistics and translation module: ‘Linguistic Textology and Communicative Practices (French)’, ‘Contrastive Linguistics and Translation’, ‘Methodology of Organising Research with the Fundamentals of Intellectual Property (French)’, etc. The subject of study is the translation aspect of the functioning of the French and Ukrainian languages in the context of written and oral translation and text editing.
Course content
The course focuses on the key concepts and categories of genre-based translation theories, in particular the differentiation of the concepts of ‘genre’, ‘style’, ‘discourse’ within various paradigms of linguistic knowledge, the patterns of development of contemporary genre-based translation theory and its key issues, and the characteristics of a comparative analysis of the Ukrainian and French language systems from a genre perspective. This course forms part of a series of professionally-oriented disciplines and is logically linked to courses in linguo-textology and communicative practices, as well as contrastive linguistics and translation.

Assessment methods and criteria
Throughout the semester, following lectures on the relevant topics, seminars are held during which assessment takes place in accordance with the types of work and forms of assessment described in section 7.1. Students who have accumulated a total score of less than the critical threshold of 36 marks will not be permitted to sit the exam. The maximum mark for additional forms of assessment may not exceed 40% of the final mark (up to 40 marks on a 100-mark scale). The final semester mark is composed of marks obtained by the student during the completion of the specified types and forms of study, and marks obtained in the examination; the maximum distribution is calculated according to the following formula: 60 marks (60%) – continuous assessment and 40 marks (40%) – examination.
