The professional qualification 2444.2 Translator (English and/or German /French/Spanish/Italian /Portuguese) is awarded based on a special decision of the examination committee upon successful mastering of key disciplines and completion of internship with a grade point average of at least 75. See the description for details, para 3.
Programme learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of mastery of national and foreign languages to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in these national and foreign languages. PLO 3. To apply modern methods and techniques, namely informational, in order to perform successful and effective professional activity and guarantee the quality of research in a specific linguistic field. PLO 5. To find optimal ways for effective interaction in the professional community and with representatives of other professional groups at various levels. PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication. PLO 9. To characterize theoretical principles (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) and applied aspects of the chosen linguistic specialization. PLO 10. To collect and systematize facts of language and literature, to interpret and translate texts of various styles and genres (depending on the chosen specialization). PLO 14. To create, analyze, and edit texts of various genres and styles. PLO 15. To choose optimal research approaches and methods of analysis for the specific language and literary material. PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a chosen linguistic field to solve complex tasks and issues, which require updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete or lacking information and contradictory requirements. PLO 17. To plan, organize, perform and present research and / or innovative developments in a specific linguistic field. Examination regulations and grading scale
Examinations (written, oral, mixed form, pass-fail), grading tests, presentations, abstracts, reports, certification (final) examination, defence of internship report, defence of qualification (master’s) paper. Scale of grades (examination): 90-100 – excellent; 75-89 – good; 60-74 – satisfactory; 35-59 - unsatisfactory. Scale of grades (pass-fail examination): 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed. Work placement
Full-time translation internship involves students in oral or written translation of various general and specialized texts from English to Ukrainian and Ukrainian into English. Students acquire a practical understanding of the profession of translators, test their ability to understand translation assignments, choose the right strategies and methods for their work with texts submitted by clients, communicate with co-workers and clients, edit translations, work in teams, and draw up supporting documentation. Translation practice is based at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, translation agency "Alesco", Public Organization "Ukrainian Association of Translators", English Language and Information Center of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.

Master of Philology (translation included) can work in academic institutions, publishing houses, educational establishments; in mass-media; in PR-agencies; in various foundations, unions, humanitarian organisations, museums, art and cultural centres, etc.; in various sectors that need translation services and the creation, analysis, evaluation of texts, and provision of services of linguistic and translation expertise.
