Learning outcomes
PLO 4. Assess and analyze critically vital social, individual and professional issues and offer tactics for their resolution, in difficult and unpredictable conditions, which require the application of new approaches and forecasting.
PLO 7. To analyze, compare and classify various schools and approaches in Linguistic Studies.
PLO 11. To perform a scholarly analysis of language, speech and literature material, interpret and structure it based on appropriate methodological principles, sum up the results of individually processed data.
PLO 15. To choose optimal research approaches and methods of analysis for the specific language and literary material.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Master’s Thesis is a compulsory comprehensive form of control and final certification of higher education students in the educational program “Translation from English and the second Western European language”. Prerequisites: complete successful implementation of the curriculum at the appropriate educational level.
Course content
The purpose of the master’s thesis is to form Ukrainian and English universal competence in the field of professional and scientific communication in students, to improve their skills and abilities of gnostic and creative nature necessary for independent scientific research. The master’s thesis is exploratory in nature and is aimed at studying a topical issue in a particular field of linguistics. It should be the result of theoretical and empirical study of the chosen problem, creative perception of it and experimental verification of the research results, related to the practical needs of the philological profession.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Consultations on issues related to the following stages of writing a final qualification paper:
• Defining the range of academic interests and the object and subject of the research. Preliminary formulation of the research topic. Establishing the sequence of tasks, scope and timing of work.
• Working on the structure and content of the practical part of the thesis (selection of optimal research methods, analysis, classification of language material).
• Formatting the textual material (title page, table of contents, titles, subheadings, quotations, examples, references, bibliography, appendices) in accordance with the new National Standard of Ukraine. Preparing a printed version of the thesis and cover.
• Submitting the thesis for review. Working on the remarks and comments of the reviewer. Concluding an explanatory note (preparation of abstracts for defense). Passing preliminary defense.
• Scientific presentation (speech during the defense) of the qualifying work.
• Other.
Assessment methods and criteria
The academic advisor evaluates their students’ progress at the stage preceding the submission of the thesis for review, with regard to the following aspects: performance of the tasks assigned by the advisor, adherence to deadlines, consistency of conclusions and independence of research, etc. Maximum number of points: 10 points.
The reviewer evaluates the thesis at the stage preceding its submission to the defense, according to the following criteria: relevance of the study, practical significance of the study, student’s knowledge in the area of classical and modern scientific sources, compliance with academic style, etc. Maximum number of points: 45 points
The attestation commission evaluates the defense of the master’s thesis according to the following criteria: structure and scope of the presentation, its consistency, coverage of the research content, language competence of the student, their answers, etc. Maximum number of points: 45 points.
