Learning outcomes

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The curriculum is designed for students who have studied English as the first language at Bachelor's level for 4 years and have the appropriate level of training. The student must know: theoretical foundations of translation, general theory of translation; be able to: adequately translate from English into Ukrainian, perform translation studies analysis, use translation and linguistic tools in practice; have skills in translation studies research, screening, analysis, and interpretation of translation facts and translation statements, communicate on translation studies topics, and orient themselves in new translation areas.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to provide the students with precise and profound knowledge of the subject, object, purpose, objectives, content and structure of special theories of translation, difficulties of translation of specialized texts and solution of relevant problems, about topical issues of special translation theories based on new scientific monographs and articles by renowned translation scholars and improvement of skills and abilities of translating texts of various types, genres, and forms. Training is conducted at interactive inquiry sessions using educational and translating technologies in the form of interactive sessions and effected in the form of lectures with the ensuing consolidation of acquired knowledge and skills in practical classes, using authentic materials and simulation of real-life translation situations and independent work of the students. The discipline is completed with a test at the end of the semester.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities during the semester:
● lectures based on presentations
● practical written translation assignments to be done in the course and during self-study
● analysis of completed written translation assignments
● oral feedback in class.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester evaluation - the maximum number of points during the semester - 100 points;
Blitz-evaluation (at lecture sessions): Study results (SRs) 1.1-1.2, 2.1- 2.2, 3.1 - 10 points per semester;
Translation of texts and its substantiation (in the practical classroom training): SRs 1.1-1.2, 2.1-2.2, 3.1-3.2, 4 - 70 points per semester
Summative test (at a practical training session): SRs 1.1-1.2, 2.1- 2.2, 3.2, 4 - 20 points
