Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of national and foreign language mastery to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in the national and foreign languages.
PLO 21. To know the specifics of the translator’s work in various environments (text, media, audiovisual, web space) and be able to use the necessary tools and techniques.
PLO 22. To analyze, develop and substantiate translation decisions, decisions on the choice of translation tools and methods to ensure the quality of specialized translation.
PLO 24.1. To apply corresponding strategies and tactics in the process of translating and editing medical, legal, academic, and newspaper style texts.
PLO 24.1. To apply written translation techniques from Ukrainian into English and German/French/Spanish/Italian/Portuguese

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before studying this course, students should know the theoretical foundations of Introduction to Translation Studies, Genre Theories of Translation, Specialized Translation, Contrastive Lexicology of English and Ukrainian, Contrastive Stylistics of English and Ukrainian, Contrastive Grammar of English and Ukrainian; be able to collect and interpret information on linguistic phenomena, apply translation techniques, plan and evaluate their work; use interactive and multimedia tools; have the skills of information management; translation research methodologies; critical attitude to the analyzed phenomena; use of foreign professional information sources; work with authentic texts; interaction and cooperation in learning and research environment.
Course content
The discipline is aimed at forming knowledge about the specifics and challenges of legal translation as one of the types of specialized translation, as well as sustainable skills needed to translate legal texts and documents. Teaching is conducted in the form of lectures, practical classes and independent work by students. The discipline ends with an exam at the end of the term.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Teaching activities and methods include:
• independent work by students;
• interim checks of knowledge - written tests;
• answers, written translations at practical classes.
Assessment methods and criteria
Progress assessment during the term
Maximum number of points during the term - 100.
• tasks that are performed in the process of independent work: LO 1.1–1.3, 2.1–2.4, 4.1 – 4.3 – 20 points
• interim tests: LO 1.1; LO 1.2; LO 2.1; LO 2.2; LO 3.2; LO 4.1; LO 4.2; LO 4.3; LO 4.4 – 20 points
• answers at practical classes: LO 1.1–4 – 20 points (the assessment depends on the completeness of the answer);
Written translations – 20 points.
A final assessment is by an exam. The exam is conducted in oral and written form, the examination card consists of one theoretical question, which is assessed with a maximum of 10 points and two practical tasks, each of which is assessed with a maximum of 15 points.
