Learning outcomes
PRL 2. To know state and foreign languages fully well for conducting oral and written intercultural communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication, present results of research in state and foreign languages.
PRL 5. To find effective ways of interaction in professional context and with representatives of other professional groups at different levels.
PRL 6. To apply the knowledge about expressive, emotive, and logical language means, speech techniques and principles of intercultural management for achieving the planned pragmatic result and organizing successful communication.
PRL 16. To use the specialized conceptual knowledge of a chosen philological sphere for solution of complex problems, which requires renewal and integration of knowledge in the conditions of incomplete/insufficient information and contested requirements.
PRL 19. To establish systemic language divergencies and take them into account in translation practice.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students should know the 1st foreign language (English) at the advanced level, be acquainted with basic notions of lexicology, stylistics, and translation studies.
Course content
The discipline presupposes thorough study of English lexical and stylistic means, its cultural and communicative characteristics based on language material which includes texts of various genres. These texts are complemented by certain grammatical, lexical, stylistic, communicative and translation tasks. The themes studied encompass politics, economics, science, culture, and art of English-speaking countries. The syllabus presupposes complex teaching of the language. All its aspects are studied alongside the development of students' speaking, translation, and academic skills.

Progress assessment (during the term):
• Maximum number of grades during the tern- 60, minimum -36.
• Answers during practical classes РН 1.1, 1.3, 2.1-2.4, 3.1 –max. 27 grades/min. 17.
• Preparation of written tasks for classes РН 1.4, 2.2, 2.5, 3.2' – max. 27 grades /min. 17.
• Test papers РН 1.2-1.4, 2.5, 2.6, 4.1 -max.6 grades/min. 2.
Final assessment in the form of exam after РН 1.3, 1.4, 2.2, 2.3, 2.6:
• Written translation of a text (from English into Ukrainian) – max. 20 grades/ min. 12.
• Talk on one of the oral topics – max. 20 grades/ min. 12.
Maximum grade for the exam – 40, minimum – 24.
