Learning outcomes
PLO 4. To assess and analyze critically vital social, individual and professional issues and offer tactics for their resolution, in difficult and unpredictable conditions, which require the application of new approaches and forecasting. PLO 5. To find optimal ways for effective interaction in the professional community and with representatives of other professional groups at various levels. PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication. PLO 15. To choose optimal research approaches and methods of analysis for the specific language and literary material. PLO 21. To know the specifics of translator’s work in various fields (textual, media, audiovisual, web-space) and be able to use necessary tools and techniques.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the main categories of translation and general principles of interpretation. 2. Be able to adequately apply basic interpreting techniques. 3. Knowledge of English at the level not lower than C1 and Ukrainian at the level not lower than C2.
Course content
The discipline belongs to the mandatory components of the research-oriented part of the educational and scientific program and serves as a basis for mastering further courses in simultaneous interpretation. It is aimed at mastering theoretical foundations and practical skills of simultaneous interpretation. Theoretical knowledge is acquired in parallel with the development of practical skills and abilities. Practical classes of the course integrate all the necessary exercises for mastering the process of simultaneous interpretation, improving professional skills and abilities: reaction, comprehension, lag, attention span, dual-stream perception and reproduction of information, instant memory, short memory, long memory, stream transformation, rapid transformation of syntactic and lexical-semantic constructions, etc. Teaching and assessment is conducted in English and Ukrainian.

Types of learning activities during the term: • spoken answers during the practical classes, discussions, colloquim; • written assignments within individual training, research paper; • vocabulary test; • final control test.
Assessment methods and criteria
Pass/fail test, maximum number of points during the term – 100 points; Term evaluation: • Colloquium on theoretical issues of simultaneous interpretation: LO 1.1., 1.2, 3.2,4.1,4.2 – 10 points • Research paper on theoretical issues and practice of simultaneous interpretation: LO 1.1., 1.2, 3.2,4.1,4.2 – 10 points • Spoken answers: LO 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.1, 3.2 – 42 points; • Complementing comment / a successful translation solution in a practical lesson: LO 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.1, 3.2 – 14 points • Vocabulary test: LO 1.2, 2.3, 4.1, 4.2 – 4 points. • Control test: LO 1.1, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.1, 4.1, 4.2 – 20 points
