Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastery of the course is contingent upon the proper development of practical skills and proficiency in French as a second foreign language, as well as the basics of interpretation and translation, from the language into Ukrainian and vice versa, as well as the knowledge of the theoretical foundations of translation/interpretation, grammar, lexicology, stylistics, and the linguocultural studies of Francophone countries.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to train highly qualified translation/interpretation specialists for the French-Ukrainian language pair (whereby French is the second working language) by developing practical skills in translating texts of various genres and topics, deepening students' theoretical and practical knowledge about ways to overcome asymmetric features between French and Ukrainian linguocultures in the course of cross-cultural communication. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to continue developing students' professional skills as future translator practitioners, as well as academic work skills in the field of translation studies; to deepen the knowledge of the basic techniques of translating French-language material into Ukrainian and Ukrainian texts into the French language, as well as consolidate the ability to use them consciously; to further develop students' skills in translation source analysis, self-editing skills and critical analysis of translations. Training is conducted in the form of practical classes and students' independent work. The discipline concludes with an examination at the end of the 2nd semester.
