Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Evaluate own educational and scientific-professional activities, create and implement an effective strategy for self-development and professional self-improvement. PLO 7. Analyze, compare, and classify different directions and schools in translation studies and linguistics. PLO 8. Evaluate historical achievements and new developments in literary criticism and translation studies. PLO 9. Characterize theoretical foundations (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) and applied aspects of the chosen philological specialization. PLO 16. Use specialized conceptual knowledge of the chosen philological field to solve complex tasks and problems that require updating and integration of knowledge, often in conditions of incomplete / insufficient information and contradictory requirements.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The syllabus is designed for students who have studied English as the first language at Bachelor's level for 4 years and have the appropriate level of training. The student must know: theoretical foundations of translation studies, methods of translation studies, traditional scientific paradigms of translation studies; be able to: adequately translate from English into Ukrainian, perform translation analysis, use translation and linguistic tools in practice; possess the skills and abilities in translation research, selection, analysis, and interpretation of translation facts and translation statements, communicate on translation studies topics, and orient themselves in new translation studies areas.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to form students' detailed accurate knowledge about the subject, object, purpose, tasks, content and structure of the general theory of translation and how to solve current general translation theory problems in the world's translation studies on the basis of new scientific monographs and articles by renowned translation scholars for a thorough orientation in the general theory of translation, which are being worked on by leading translatologists. The training takes place at interactive research sessions using educational and translation technologies and is conducted in the form of lectures with the follow-up consolidation of acquired knowledge and skills in practical exercises with the use of authentic materials and simulation of real-world translation situations and students' self-study. The discipline is completed with a test at the end of the semester.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities during the semester: • Lectures based on presentations • Practical writing assignments for translation performed in class and during self-study • Analysis of completed translation assignments • oral feedback in class.
Assessment methods and criteria
• Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level evaluation of the learned material, in particular, the evaluation of theoretical training - study results (knowledge 1.1 - 1. 2), which amounts to 45% of the overall evaluation, and evaluation of practical training - the results of training (skills 2.1-2.2); (communication 3.1-3.2); (autonomy and responsibility 4), which amounts to 55% of the overall assessment. • Blitz-questioning (at a lecture session): SRs 1.1-1.2, 2.1-2.2, 3.1 - 10 points per semester • Translation of the text and its substantiation (during practical exercises): SRs 1.1-1.2, 2.1- 2.2, 3.1-3.2, 4 - 70 points per semester • Summative test (at a practical training session): SRs 1.1-1.2, 2.1- 2.2, 3.2, 4 - 20 points per semester
