Learning outcomes
PLO 10. To collect and systematise facts of language and literature, to interpret and translate texts of various styles and genres (depending on the chosen specialisation). PLO 14. To create, analyse, and edit texts of various genres and styles. PLO 20. To undertake pre-translation analysis of specialised texts of various styles and genres. PLO 22. To analyse, design, and give reasons for translation decisions, decisions on the choice of translation tools and methods of quality assurance in specialised translation. PLO 24.1. To apply appropriate strategies and tactics in the process of translating and editing medical, legal, academic and newspaper style texts.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who took the English language course during the first two semesters of their Master studies, and have an appropriate level of preparation: Successfully completed the following courses: Practice of Translation and Interpretation, Terminology, Genre and Stylistic Aspects of Texts Translation From the First Foreign Language, Practice of Bilateral Interpreting and Note-Taking, Specialised Translation Technique, Specialised Theories of Translation. Know the theoretical foundations of contemporary translation studies, including types of translation transformations, genre and stylistic aspects of translation, features of the Ukrainian and English terminology systems, and master the lexical material as required by the curriculum. Possess the skills of translation text analysis, and of translation and interpretation (including abstract) of non-specialised texts.
Course content
The discipline is a part of a block of optional courses ‘Translation in Professional Communication,’ and a constituent element of the educational, academic and professional tuition for future highly qualified translators from English. It provides for the comprehensive implementation of educational, practical, developmental and professional goals, as it aims to synthesise and consolidate students’ knowledge of specialised translation theories, as well as to train and deepen their translation skills needed for dealing with specialised texts in practice. The programme of the discipline focuses on improving the skills of English-Ukrainian translation of specialised texts of different genres. Languages of instruction and assessment are English and Ukrainian.

Semester assessment: Total maximum points during the semester – 60. Final form of control: examination – 40 points.
