Learning outcomes
As a result of studying the course, students should learn the initial elements of the scientific research work of an archaeologist, be able to apply various methods for organizing the main categories of artifacts and archaeological monuments of various types, and possess methodical approaches to the selection of archaeological cultures.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the basic principles of periodization, typology and classification of archaeological sources. 2. To be able to apply various methods for creating typological schemes. 3. To have basic skills of cultural and chronological identification of various archaeological sources.
Course content
The content of the course is divided into 2 content modules. Each content module includes lectures, independent work of students, which are completed by a rating control of the level of assimilation of knowledge of the program material of the corresponding part of the course. Content module 1 (СМ1) includes topics 1-6, content module 2 (СМ2) includes topics 7-12.

Assessment methods and criteria
The control of the student's knowledge is carried out according to the modular rating system. The total number of student points is formed by the semester points received from all topics of two content modules (points received for modular control papers (in the form of tests); points received for completing individual tasks; points received for work in seminar classes, as well as points which are received for the final control work. The results of students' educational activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale. The criteria for evaluating a student's answer are: • complete disclosure of the issue • the logic of presentation • use of basic and additional literature • analytical reasoning, the ability to draw conclusions
