Discipline is a necessary component of social worker training. Many recipients of social work are sentenced to alternative types of punishment, or are under the supervision of the probation service, or persons preparing for release from prison, in adaptation to life in society. Students should clearly understand the personality traits of people belonging to these groups and master the methods of working with them, which will prevent recidivism and promote the resocialization of offenders. Students should learn how to develop programs for psychological correction of the behavior of persons sentenced to criminal punishment. Students should also develop social work and psychological assistance programs to prevent emotional burnout for penitentiary staff.
