Learning outcomes
LO2. Demonstrate proficiency in the national and foreign languages for written and oral communication, particularly in professional and academic contexts; present research findings in the national and foreign languages. LO5. Identify optimal approaches for effective collaboration within a professional team and with representatives of other professional groups at various levels. LO11. Conduct scientific analysis of linguistic, speech, and literary material; interpret and structure it in accordance with appropriate methodological principles; formulate generalizations based on independently processed data. Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know: 1. Course material on topics such as communication theories and theories of the English language. Be able to: 1. Conduct lexical-grammatical, stylistic, and rhetorical analysis of authentic texts ranging from 3 to 4 pages in length. 2. Correctly and appropriately use professional terminology and idioms, and construct syntactic structures in one’s own speech. 3. Complete academic projects on assigned topics and present their results to an audience; Master: 1. Listening to and understanding original scientific, professional, and socio-political English-language texts with their characteristic vocabulary and idioms. 2. Summarizing and performing oral/written translation of scientific, professional, and socio-political texts from English into Ukrainian.
Course content
The course “Communication Strategies and Translation” is designed for master’s students at universities and foreign language institutes/departments who are studying English as a second professional language. The course consists of four thematic modules: “Language and Speech,” “Communication in Human Society,” “Oral and Written Communication,” and “Translation as a Form of Communicative Activity,” dedicated to the study of theoretical and practical aspects of communication in English, taking into account its ethno- and sociocultural characteristics, as well as methods of translating and editing messages/texts. The following types of instructional activities are planned for classroom sessions (seminars): announcements, reports, presentations, dialogues, discussions, roundtable discussions, and role-playing. Independent work includes preparing 1 academic presentation and completing 1 educational project. Forms of assessment include pedagogical observation, oral questioning, homework checks, quizzes, tests, multiple-choice tests, monitoring and evaluation of the educational project, and an exam.

Assessment methods and criteria
1. Completion of homework assignments: 2–24 points. 2. Performance during practical sessions: 1–16 points. 3. Module test: 0–5 points. 4. Presentation of a research paper: 2–5 points. 5. Completion of an educational project: 2 to 5 points. 6. Exam: 9 - 40 points. Weighting: 60:100=0.60 For each module test, a student can earn up to 5 points. Module Test No. 1 includes a test section covering theoretical aspects of the English language and communication (10 questions—0.25 points each) and a text excerpt for lexical-syntactic and stylistic analysis (10 assessment points – 0.25 points each). Module Test No. 2 includes a multiple-choice section covering theoretical aspects of communication and translation (10 questions—0.25 points each) and a text/message excerpt for genre-rhetorical analysis and translation with editing elements (10 assessment points—0.25 points each).
