Prerequisites and co-requisites
To accomplish this course, students are expected to possess essential knowledge of methods and techniques of teaching Ukrainian literature; types of classes of Ukrainian literature; methods of administering written papers in Ukrainian literature; system; objectives of nurturing personality by means of Ukrainian literature; test techniques to diagnose learning outcomes in Ukrainian literature. Students are expected to have a developed ability to study literature sources, systematize and customize scientific information in professional activity; develop lesson plans and conduct classes and extra-curricular events on Ukrainian literature; use latest teaching methods in classes of Ukrainian literature in modern secondary school.
Course content
Objectives: building students teaching competence, i.e., knowledge about and ability to plan, implement and assess teaching/learning of Ukrainian literature in senior profession-oriented secondary school. Encourage students’ research activity and use of innovative methods of teaching Ukrainian literature.
Abstract. The course aims to provide forming scientific -methodological competence, i.e., knowledge about and ability to plan, implement and assess the process of teaching of Ukrainian literature at senior profession-oriented secondary school. The discipline facilitates the cognition of literature as unique phenomenon of art, “living being”; expands and deepens the perception of literary work , develops analytical and interpretation skills. Moreover the discipline represents contemporary methods of teaching as applied science which has two major sources – pedagogy and literary science; whereas its applied character is explicated in teaching practice; the results of this practice relate the discipline to the field of teaching methods. The study of theory plays a significant role in accomplishing the discipline, however both practical activity and independent work of learners are of paramount importance.

The course engages students in lectures, practical sessions, independent work and methods of teaching: scientific discussion, project work, modelling professional situations, multimedia educational technologies
Assessment methods and criteria
The overall grade consists of points for activities throughout the semester (maximum - 60 points, minimum - 36 points). The following types of work are assessed: participation in a practical class, academic discussion, preparing and presenting a project, creative work and the final assessment in the form of an exam (maximum - 40 points, minimum - 24 points).
The exam is conducted in written form and contains three tasks: two questions in theory (to test the knowledge of methodological foundations and modern conceptions of teaching the Ukrainian language and literature in secondary specialized school; each graded with a maximum of 15 points); one practical task (to design the part of the lesson for analyzing the fiction text – 10 points) based on the learning outcomes: LO 1.1; 1.2; 1.3; 1.4; LO 2.2; 2.3; LO 4.1.
