Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non- experts in Ukrainian, English and in two Western European languages, in oral and in written form, use these languages to organize effective cross-cultural communication.
PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice.
PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, English and two other Western European languages.
PLO 14. Use English and two other Western European languages in oral and written form, in different genre-style varieties and registers of communication (formal, informal, neutral), for solving communicative tasks in everyday, public, educational, professional and academic spheres of life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. A “pass” in courses: Translation Studies, General English (1st, 2nd, 3rd term), Regional Studies of English-Speaking Countries;
2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of general linguistics, basic categories of translation studies and the principles of written and oral translation;
3. Proficiency in Ukrainian (not lower than C2) and English (not lower than C1).
Course content
The course covers a range of issues relevant to the acquisition of knowledge, skills and abilities of future translators, including students' application of translation theory in practice, solving various translation problems, understanding lexical and grammatical difficulties of translation, basic translation transformations; formation of practical skills of conscious use of these transformations; practical training of ways and approaches to solving problems in the translation of texts on various topics; identification and correction of translation mistakes, prevention of negative cross-lingual interference: development of analytical skills of future translators via the analysis of authentic texts and their translations (including pre-translation, comparative analysis), as well as the ability to choose the most efficient translation strategy taking into account linguistic and extralinguistic factors to carry out adequate translation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered with the help of such activities as oral reports, written assignments and written tests.
The teaching methods are practical classes, creative projects, students’ individual work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Continuous assessment is carried out corresponding to the types of work and the form of control at practical classes during the term. The final term grade is accumulated from the points students gain for the fulfillment of the specified types and forms of training and points for the final test. The maximum distribution is carried out according to the following algorithm: semester control: 75 points (75%) and final test - 25 points (25%). Students who scored a lower number of points for the term than the critical calculated minimum - 45 points, are not allowed to take the test. If the student scored less than 15 points in the final test, the total number of points scored is entered into the academic record and the student gets "Fail".
