Learning outcomes
PTR 4. To understand the fundamental principles of human existence, nature and society. PTR 9. To characterize the dialectal and social varieties of the Russian language and to describe the sociolingual situation. PTR 14. To use Ukrainian in verbal and written form, in different genre-style varieties and registers of communication (official, informal, neutral), to solve communicative tasks in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life. PTR 22. To use knowledge of Ukrainian history and country studies to organize successful communication in Ukrainian and adequate translation PTR 26. To identify and analyze the national and cultural specifics of verbal and non-verbal communication in Ukrainian.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of theoretical and practical Ukrainian language courses taught in previous semesters: "Practical Course of the Ukrainian Language", "Practical Grammar of the Ukrainian Language", "Practical Phonetics of the Ukrainian Language", "Oral Speech".
Course content
"Nonverbal Communication: National and Cultural Specifics" is an elective course for international students majoring in Ukrainian Language and Translation (for Foreigners) and choosing the specialization "Ukrainian Language in the Linguistic and Cultural Aspect". The discipline is aimed at developing knowledge of non-verbal interaction between people; familiarizing students with the extra-linguistic factors that determine the communicative behavior of Ukrainians and affect communication with representatives of other nationalities; teaching foreigners to establish visual contact, including facial expressions (mimicry), posture, body gestures (kinesics), distance between interlocutors (proxemics), pace and time (chronemics), touch (haptics), etc.
