Learning outcomes
To know the essence, features and classification of intelligence activities; the concept of "competitive intelligence", its subject and object; main tasks and sources of competitive intelligence; areas of interest and stages of competitive intelligence.
Be able to identify approaches to the inclusion of competitive intelligence in the structure of the company; identify and characterize "office" and "field" methods of competitive intelligence; identify the main problems in collecting and processing information for management decisions; provide a comparative description of competitive intelligence and industrial espionage; be able to conduct competitive intelligence on the example of the chosen company.
To gain basic communication skills by participating in or discussing the ways and means of using competitive intelligence to support management decision-making and increase competitiveness.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. To know about intelligence activities, basic methods of information and analytical work; know the features and mechanisms of information and corporate wars; have knowledge of national and international law on intelligence and intellectual property law.
2. To be able to work with information sources, analyze communication processes and write information materials.
Course content
Module 1. Theoretical and methodological features of the competitive intelligence.
Topic 1. The essence, legal basis and classification of intelligence activities.
Topic 2. Tasks, sources and tools of the competitive intelligence.
Topic 3. Subject and methods of the competitive intelligence.
Topic 4. Analysis of the activities of organizations of the competitive intelligence.
Module 2. Practical dimension of the competitive intelligence in international and national business.
Topic 5. Practical problems of ethics in the work of a specialist in competitive intelligence. Comparative characteristics of the competitive intelligence and industrial espionage.
Topic 6. Competitive advantages of the countries.
Topic 7. The practice of the competitive intelligence on the examples of selected companies.

Lectures, seminars, case study, individual work.
Assessment methods and criteria
- semester assessment:
1. modular test (20 points / 10 points).
2. reports on the plan for seminars (30 points / 25 points).
3. case project (10 points / 5 points).
- final evaluation:
1. form of assessment - exam;
2. the maximum number of points that can be obtained by a student - 40 points.
