Prerequisites and co-requisites
Interdisciplinary links: Foreign language (Chinese), theory of translation from Chinese language.
Students must be fluent in Chinese at a level not lower than advanced, as well as know the theory of translation, be able to practically apply modern translation methods, have basic skills: the application of theoretical knowledge of translation theory.
Practice sites are determined annually.
Course content
Communicative and translation practice in Oriental language is a mandatory component of the curriculum of a student of philology. Full-time communicative and translation practice is a complex process that is an integral part of training specialists in the educational program for future professional activities, and is designed to ensure that students acquire professional translation skills as a translator from a foreign language. Communicative and translation practice promotes the development of professional self-awareness, culture of communication, the formation of theoretical, practical and personal-motivational components of professional competence of students. In addition, during its passage, students continue to develop translation skills and their own creative style of translation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
A job of a translator from a foreign language: each student trainee must translate texts from a foreign language for 3 weeks in a volume of at least 10 pages. In particular, it is provided that students translate from foreign to native language and from native to foreign on economic, scientific and technical, socio-political texts. Students write a commentary on the whole translation, give the most interesting examples of lexical, grammatical and stylistic devices, and note the main difficulties of translation. There is a translation into Ukrainian, however, in the case of translation into Chinese, the number of pages can be reduced to 8. Types of work are divided into three stages: active practice, drafting reporting documents, protection of reporting documents.
Assessment methods and criteria
Criteria for evaluating communication and translation practice:
Translation of texts (maximum 30 points); Concluding test documentation, practice diary, participation in the discussion of practice results (maximum 10 points), defence of reporting documentation (maximum 10 points). Evaluation criteria are presented in detail in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
