Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of courses: "Chinese language", "Introduction to Chinese philology", "Chinese linguistic and cultural studies", "Fundamentals of linguistics (synchrony)", "Fundamentals of linguistics (diachrony)", etc.;
2. Knowledge of linguistic terminology and basic laws of language development to the extent necessary to identify and overcome translation difficulties;
3. Proficiency in basic skills of translation practice.
Course content
The discipline "Basics of Chinese translation theory" is logically necessary at the initial stage of training in Chinese batchelor degree, which systematizes and deepens the student's prior knowledge of general linguistics and eastern philology, and lays the foundation for further proper study of Chinese and features of translation. The purpose of the discipline - to consider the fundamental issues of general theory of translation at the present stage and in historical terms; to analyze the features of translation of texts of different types, as well as to acquire skills of theoretical understanding of the translation process in general and its individual parts, which is necessary for professional translation. The discipline "Fundamentals of Chinese Translation Theory" is a part of the complex discipline "General Theoretical Course of Chinese Language" (Part 2).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course provides the following forms of training: lectures and seminars conducted using interactive teaching methods, and individual work. The main types of activities and, accordingly, the objects of semester control are: classroom activities, answers during seminars, project work (reports), researches, module tests. Detailed planned educational activities and teaching methods are presented in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level assessment of the mastered material, including theoretical training, which is 40% of the total assessment, and practical training, which is 60% of the total assessment. The semester number of points is formed by the points received by the student for classroom activities and for individual work. The minimum score for the semester is 60 points, while the maximum score equals 100. The course ends with a final test. A "pass" is set based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and does not provide for additional assessment activities. Criteria for semester assessment are presented in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
