            Learning outcomes
        
        
            PLO 1 Communicate fluently in English on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists, use English for the organization of effective intercultural communication. 
PLO 5 Cooperate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc.
PLO 9 Characterize dialectal and social varieties of Ukrainian and English, describe sociolinguistic situation. 
PLO 10 Know language norms and be able to apply them in practical activity. 
 PLO 11 Know the principles and techniques of creating the texts of various genres and styles in English and Ukrainian. 
PLO 14 Use Ukrainian and English in oral and written form in various genres, stylistic varieties and registers of communication (formal, informal, neutral) for solving communicative tasks in social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life.

            Prerequisites and co-requisites
        
        
            For successful completion of the course, students should be familiar with the fundamental phonetic, grammatical, lexical, and stylistic norms of literary English. They should distinguish phonemes, transcribe them, and possess skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking at the B1 level.
        
    
            Course content
        
        
            The aim of the course is to form students' English-language communicative competence as a set of knowledge, skills, and abilities that ensure effective intercultural communication in oral and written forms; promote the mastery of the main types of communicative activity (dialogic and monologic speech, reading and understanding of English-language texts, writing and listening). Studying is based on the main provisions of the communicative approach to learning a foreign language using authentic materials and modeling real communicative situations. The program involves comprehensive teaching of the language - all its aspects are studied with the development of speech skills, abilities and learning to communicate.

            Planned learning activities and teaching methods
        
        
            Educational activities: verbal responses, spontaneous monological and dialogical discourse, listening comprehension, written assignments (compositions, essays, letters), presentations, homework/individual reading, thematic assessments, and final assessments. 
Teaching methodologies include seminars and independent study.
        
    
            Assessment methods and criteria
        
        
            Answers in practical classes, spontaneous monologic and dialogic speech – 2, written tasks – 2, presentation – 10, homework/individual reading – 10, thematic control work – 10, final control work – 20. Final evaluation – intermediate control. It is mandatory to write two thematic control papers. Grades are awarded based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester. The scale of conformity of grades - "Pass" - 60-100, "Fail" - 0-59.
