Learning outcomes
PLO 6. Apply philological knowledge to solve professional problems. PLO 7. Use information and communication technologies, in particular, to solve standard tasks of professional activity. PLO 19. Carry out pre-translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres. PLO 21. Demonstrate basic knowledge of translation theory. PLO 22. Collect, analyse, systematise and interpret linguistic facts, interpret, summarise, annotate and adequately translate (from the first and second foreign languages and from Ukrainian) oral and written texts of various styles and genres, except for specialised ones. PLO 29. Identify and analyse the specifics of the communicative situation of translation and its impact on translation decisions. PLO 31. Demonstrate skills in using innovative technologies and various translation resources, translation automation tools. Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know a foreign language (Portuguese) at the B2/B2+ level. 2. Be able to make a written translation of a non-specialized text, comment on translation difficulties and methods of overcoming them, highlight key and secondary information in the TS, and abstract the TS in the source and target languages. 3. Possess elementary skills of linguistic analysis of the text, and have basic knowledge of the stylistics and culture of the target language.
Course content
The aim of the course is to develop the skills of complex translation analysis of a text, to deepen knowledge of translation techniques in the Portuguese-Ukrainian language pair, and to consolidate the skills of editing one's own translation. It is included in the list of mandatory components of the educational program. The course is taught in the 7th semester and ends with an exam. It is the final course in the cycle of teaching general translation. It teaches the translation process comprehensively, at all its stages: pre-translation analysis, translation itself, and editing.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Practical classes, individual work. Work with translation studies literature, discussion of ways and/or results of the analysis in practical classes; analysis of test papers; study of translation studies commentary in a translation manual, systematization of techniques based on the results of the exercises: work with monolingual and bilingual dictionaries, information sources of various types (paper and Internet resources), analysis of the scope of meanings of lexical units, their compatibility and frequency of use.
Assessment methods and criteria
- Semester assessment (max. 60 points): - written homework and argumentation of translation decisions made in class - max. 25 points; - abstracting and annotating texts - max. 10 points; - Comparative analysis of the original and published translation of a certain fragment of text and presentation of its results; analysis and editing of someone else's translation - max. 5 marks; - intermediate control (2 tests) - maximum 10 / 10 points. - Final assessment: exam (oral and written form) Exam structure: 1. Written translation analysis of the source text (max. 10 marks). 2. Written translation of a Portuguese-language text into Ukrainian (max. 20 points). 3. Oral commentary on the identified translation problem and methods of its solution. Translation task on translation technique (max. 10 marks).
