Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Fluently communicate on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists in the state and foreign (English) languages orally and in writing; use them to organize effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies, and techniques of creating oral and written texts of various genres and styles in the state and foreign (English) languages. PLO 14. Use the English language in oral and written form, in various genres and style varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral), to solve communication problems in everyday, public, educational, professional, and scientific areas of life. PLO 15. Carry out linguistic, literary, and translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres. PLO 21. Interpret, abstract, annotate and adequately translate from English and Ukrainian oral and written texts of different styles and genres, excluding highly specialized ones.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who have studied English as a second language during the second, third, and fourth semesters of study and have the appropriate level of training. The student should know basic linguistic terms; principles of analysis of linguistic material; features of semantics, and functioning of units of all levels of English; be able to apply linguistic tools in practice; possess elementary skills; selection, analysis, and interpretation of speech facts; communication on linguistic topics.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is the formation of English communicative competence essential for effective intercultural communication, deepening students' practical knowledge in phonetics, vocabulary, and grammar; to acquaintance with the ways of transferring the meanings of linguistic units of the source language into the target language based on in-depth knowledge of English in all its aspects, deepening the linguistic and linguistic and cultural erudition of students. The training is based on fundamental principles of the communicative approach to foreign language learning with authentic materials and modeling of real communicative situations. It is conducted through practical classes and individual students' work. The discipline ends with an exam at the end of the semester.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Training activities throughout the semester: - tasks completed in the process of individual work; - intermediate control - written tests on four aspects of language competence; - answers during practical classes; - projects, presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: Maximum number of points during the semester - 60 points, - tasks performed in the process of independent work: LO 2.2, 2.4, 2.5, 3.1 - 5 points - written control tasks: LO 1.5, 2.1, 2.2, 2.4, 4.2 - 5 points - answers during practical classes: LO 1.2, 1.3,1.5, 2.1 - 5 points (evaluated depending on the completeness of disclosure); - blitz survey: LO 2.1, 2.2, 2.4, 3.1 - 15 points (evaluated depending on the completeness of disclosure); - control work: LO 2.4, 3.1 - 10 points. Final assessment in the form of an exam: - written translation into Ukrainian of an English text and lexical and grammatical commentary to it - 20 points, - grammar topic with a task - 10 points - conversation on the proposed topical issue - 10 points.
