Learning outcomes
After studying the course, students should master the basic elements of the scientific description of archaeological materials, related to ancient metallurgy and metalworking; to be able to independently assess the informational potential of the mentioned materials of the Paleometal Age, the Early Iron Age, and the Middle Ages; to analyze the primary data on the results of the application of the methods of natural sciences to the products of metallurgy and metalworking of antiquity and the Middle Ages; to acquire practical skills in studying scientific literature related to the problem field of the proposed course.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Before starting this course, students should know the basic schemes of archaeological and historical periodization, as well as cultural-chronological sequences for the territory of modern Ukraine and adjacent territories. 2. To be able to collect and interpret information about the main processes and events of world history and the history of Ukraine; apply the basic terminology and categorical apparatus of modern archaeological and historical research. 3. To have elementary skills of scientific research and knowledge; critical attitude and forecasting of historical events and phenomena.
Course content
The content of the course is divided into 2 content modules. Each content module includes lectures, seminars, independent work of students, which are completed by rating control of the level of assimilation of knowledge of the program material of the corresponding part of the course. Content module 1 (СМ1) includes topics 1-4, topics 5-8 are included in content module 2 (СМ2).

Assessment methods and criteria
The control of the student's knowledge is carried out according to the modular rating system. The total number of student points is formed by the semester points received from all topics of two content modules (points received during seminars (oral surveys); points received for completing essays; points received during module control (for completing test tasks), as well as points received during the final control (exam), namely: for completing the proposed test tasks. Assessment of student knowledge success is carried out in two forms: semester assessment (tests, oral survey, essay) and final assessment (exam). The total number of points is 100 points (of which, the semester assessment is a maximum of 60 points; the final assessment (exam) is a maximum of 40 points).
