Learning outcomes
1.1 Know the main stages of the archaeological study of the monuments of America. 1.2 Know the general archaeological periodization for the cultures of the Americas and its features for specific subregions. 1.3 Know the main categories of monuments inherent in certain archaeological cultures of America. 1.4 Know the categorical composition of movable artifacts characteristic of monuments of the main archaeological cultures of America. 2.1 To be able to characterize the main chronological markers inherent in certain stages of the development of the population of pre-Columbian America. 2.2 To be able to determine the forms of economic activity according to specific categories of archaeological material. 2.3 To be able to perform a comparative analysis of information from written and archaeological sources regarding the centers of civilization in Mesoamerica and the Andean region.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Before starting this course, students should know the general principles of archaeological periodization and the specifics of its application to certain territories. 2. To be able to collect and interpret information about the main processes and events of World History, in particular - regarding the implementation of certain aspects of historical progress into specific categories of archaeological materials; apply the basic terminology and categorical apparatus of modern historical and archaeological research 3. Possess elementary skills of scientific research and handling information from various sources; critical attitude and forecasting of historical events and phenomena.
Course content
The content of the course is divided into 2 content modules. Each content module includes lectures, practical, independent work of students, which are completed by rating control of the level of assimilation of knowledge of the program material of the corresponding part of the course. Content module 1 (СМ1) includes topics 1-4, topics 5-8 are included in content module 2 (СМ2).

Assessment methods and criteria
The control of the student's knowledge is carried out according to the modular rating system. The total number of student points is formed by the semester points received from all topics of two content modules (points received for modular control papers (in the form of tests); points received for completing individual tasks; points received for work in seminar classes, as well as points which are received for the final control work. The results of students' educational activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale. The criteria for evaluating a student's answer are: • complete disclosure of the issue • the logic of presentation • use of basic and additional literature • analytical reasoning, the ability to draw conclusions
