Abstract. The educational discipline is aimed at studying the general features of the folklore process of Western Europe: the folklore of each individual people does not create a closed system, but appears and develops in close connection and constant contact with the literature of other, especially neighboring peoples, on the one hand, borrowing from it, from another, being a source for similar borrowings. Therefore, the scientific study of the folklore tradition of each individual people of Western Europe is unthinkable without taking into account the international folklore context.
