PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyse and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) knowledge of general information about language, its nature, functions and levels;
2) mastering the basic skills of language analysis at all levels of its structure in accordance with the elementary programs of high school (analysis of grammatical forms and syntactic structures, etymological and word-formation analysis, translation, analysis and interpretation of sentences and texts).
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint students with the basics of Latin grammar, the principles of formation of professional terms of Latin origin, formation of skills in etymological and structural-semantic analysis of Latin derivatives in modern languages, reading, translation and analysis of Latin texts (with a dictionary).
The discipline introduces students to the basics of phonetics, morphology, word formation and syntax of the Latin language, the principles of derivation and borrowing from Latin into modern languages, the heritage of Latin maxims and fixed phrases. Its subject is the study of the laws of the development of the Latin language and its influence on modern European languages. The discipline gives an idea of the lexical structure and grammar, word-formation models and the semantics of affixes of the Latin language, the Latin component in professional philological terminology; forms the skills of reading, translating and commenting on Latin texts with a dictionary, etymological and word-forming analysis of Latin derivatives.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Methods: practical training, independent work.
Activities: oral response, addition, participation in the discussion, creative task (essay, research paper), control work with open answers, final control work in the form of tests.
Assessment methods and criteria
The form of final control is credit.
According to the types of works, a student can score the following number of points:
oral answer: - from 0 to 5 points (6 x 5 = 30 points);
additions, participation in the discussion - from 0 to 2 points (5 x 2 = 10 points);
control work with open answers - from 0 to 10 points (2 x 10 = 20 points);
creative task (essay, research work) - from 0 to 10 points (2 x 10 = 20 points);
final control work in the form of tests - from 0 to 20 points.
The credit score is formed as the sum of all points scored during the semester:
0-59 – not counted, 60-100 credits.
