PLO 17. Collect, analyse, systematize and interpret language and speech facts and use them to solve complex problems and tasks in specialized fields of professional activity and / or training.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before starting this course, students should know the following courses: Introduction to linguistics, Ukraine in the context of world history, History of the Ukrainian language, Ethnolinguistics, Fundamentals of computer support for linguists, Modern Ukrainian language. To know the theoretical foundations of general linguistics; stages of development of the Ukrainian language; basics of ethnolinguistics; the essence of speech activity; basic foundations of sociology and political science. Be able to perceive and analyze information; highlight relevant and reliable material in the information field; use interactive and multimedia tools; create and analyze text; collect and analyze linguistic material. Possess elementary skills of scientific research and work with information in Internet resources; critical attitude to the analyzed phenomena; use of professional sources; seminal and semasiological analysis of the word; oratorical art; the practice of word usage and orthographic norms.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint students with the basics of sociolinguistics, to give an idea of the following problems: the interaction of language and society, forms of language existence, the functioning of languages in a bilingual and multilingual environment, the relationship between language and the nation in the history and present of Ukraine, the influence of language policy on language planning in the state and on the formation of Ukrainian national identity. The discipline provides the study of political discourse, its influence on society, the role of language in the national security of the state.
Using the example of Ukrainian society and the experience of other countries, teach how to analyze the causes of conflict-causing language situations in the conditions of bilingualism / diglossia; conduct sociolinguistic research (collectively); on the basis of a professional analysis of their results, create analytical articles, essays and reports for mass media.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Verbal, visual, interactive and practical methods of learning: lecture, seminar class, independent work.
Educational activities during the semester:
tasks performed in the process of independent work;
answers at seminar classes;
addition, participation in the discussion;
writing tests;
blitz survey;
performance of creative tasks (essay, article, report);
writing a test paper;
preparation and defense of the presentation
Assessment methods and criteria
The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom work (homework, oral answers in seminar classes - max. 2 points in each of 6 classes, supplementary - max. 2 points in each of 3 classes, blitz survey - max. 2 points in each of the 2 classes, presentation defense - max. 5 points, writing tests - max. 10 points, writing a modular control paper - max. 10 points) and for independent work (performance of creative tasks - max. 4 points for each of 2 works, presentation preparation - max. 5 points). All types of work for the semester have as a result:
in the maximum dimension of 60 points, in the minimum measure of 36 points. Final assessment: exam. The maximum number of points on the exam is 40 points,
the minimum number of points is 24 points. The final grade (minimum 60, maximum 100 points) consists of the sum of the number of points for the semester work (min. 36, max. 60 points) and the final assessment - the exam (min. 24, max. 40 points).
