Learning outcomes
PLO 21. Interpret, summarize, annotate, and adequately translate oral and written texts of various styles and genres from German, English, and Ukrainian languages, excluding highly specialized texts.
PLO 25. Demonstrate skills in using innovative technologies and various translation resources, as well as translation automation tools.
PLO 26. Conduct stylistic editing of Ukrainian texts.
PLO 27.2. Demonstrate proficiency in professional languages.
PLO 28.2 Demonstrate the ability to carry out written and oral industry-specific translations from German and English to Ukrainian and vice versa.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To have a lexical and grammatical minimum of the German and Ukrainian languages within the topics provided by the program for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd years of the bachelor's degree in the educational and professional program "Translation from German and English", to have a grasp of the basic concepts of the categorical-conceptual apparatus of translation studies; to have developed language culture, general erudition, general ideas about grammatical and stylistic norms of the source and target languages.
Course content
The purpose of this course is to actively acquaint students with the terminosystems of selected subject areas of scientific and technical discourse, to form skills of written translation and mediation of scientific and technical texts in the direction of translation B-A. The discipline involves forming the skills and abilities of pre-translation analysis of scientific and technical texts, defining the type, kind and function of texts; determining the level of abstraction of scientific and technical texts; highlighting the features of professional language at different levels of the analyzed text; acquisition of practical skills in compiling glossaries and expanding terminosystems of various subject areas of science and technology; mastering the algorithms of pre-translation, comparative-translation analysis, and editing of scientific and technical texts; deepening skills of complex reproduction of the propositional information of scientific and technical texts; adequate application of sign and semantic methods of translation; techniques for optimizing the production of the target scientific and technical text by increasing the semantic coherence of the translation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Throughout the semester, after the lecture sessions on the respective topics, practical classes are held. For each practical session, students prepare their own glossaries, which are assessed according to the general requirements for compiling glossaries, as well as sectoral translations in written form, which are presented orally.
Sectoral translation involves a complete translation of a scientific and technical text, demonstrating an understanding of the characteristics of professional language and the ability to achieve professional translation equivalence at the lexical, grammatical, stylistic, and cultural-professional level of intercultural intra-professional communication.
Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment of students includes:
- Semester assessment and final examination:
- Oral examination on the algorithm of pre-translation analysis; oral examination on the algorithm of comparative-translation analysis - maximum 10 points.
- Evaluation of compiled glossaries - maximum 10 points.
- Written sectoral translation from source language to target language - maximum 30 points.
- Written editing task - maximum 10 points.
- Module control work - maximum 20 points.
The maximum number of points that can be obtained by a student during the semester is 80 (based on a 100-point scale).
During the final examination, the maximum number of points is 20 (for the written task).
The final assessment is conducted in the form of a final examination, with a maximum of 20 points.
