Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it.
PLO 21. Interpret, summarize, annotate, and adequately translate oral and written texts of various styles and genres from German, English, and Ukrainian languages, excluding highly specialized texts.
PLO 26. Conduct stylistic editing of Ukrainian texts.
PLO 28.2 Demonstrate the ability to perform written and oral professional translation from German and English into Ukrainian and vice versa.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of the German language at a level not lower than B1, understanding of the systems of the German and Ukrainian languages, successful mastery of the courses "Introduction to Translation Studies", "Practice of Written and Oral Translation".
Course content
The aim of the course is to develop students' skills in summarizing and translating various types of socio-political texts from German into Ukrainian and vice versa.
The course includes familiarization with the grammatical, lexical, and stylistic-pragmatic features of encyclopedic articles on socio-political topics, types of journalistic texts; techniques for translating and summarizing written texts on social and political topics, developing translation skills for realities, neologisms, occasional formations, newspaper cliches, abbreviations, euphemisms, quotes, paraphrastic expressions; considering the lexical-stylistic features of Ukrainian and German newspaper texts in translation; development of oral translation skills for news and informational videos.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of learning include lectures, practical classes, which involve oral and written translation of sentences and texts from German into Ukrainian and vice versa, translation of video and audio; independent work (compilation of glossaries).
Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out using the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level evaluation of the assimilated material, including the assessment of theoretical preparation, which constitutes 20% of the total score, and the assessment of practical preparation, which makes up 80% of the total score.
The semester score is made up of points earned by the student in the process of mastering the material from the entire course. The overall grade for the semester consists of points earned for in-class work, independent work (glossary compilation), and a modular control work.
The final assessment is in the form of a credit. The credit is given based on the student's work throughout the semester and does not provide for additional assessment measures for successful students. (See the course syllabus for detailed information about the assessment criteria).
