Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of the courses "Physics", "Chemistry", "Geology", "Meteorology and
climatology";
2. Knowledge of theoretical foundations of physics, chemistry, water balance, geology, earth science,
climatology, meteorology;
3. Possess elementary practical skills of generalization of observation data
on meteorological characteristics and on the regime of water bodies, processing
cartographic information, calculations of morphometric and hydrographic
characteristics of catchments of water bodies, construction of hydrographs of river water flow with
allocation of surface and groundwater recharge, water balance.
Course content
This discipline is devoted to the study of
the main sections of hydrology, the general laws of processes in the hydrosphere; close
interconnectedness of the hydrosphere with the atmosphere, lithosphere; water cycle on Earth; basic
laws of physical and geographical distribution of water bodies of different types (rivers, lakes,
glaciers, groundwater, swamps, oceans and seas) and their reserves; information on sources of
nutrition of water bodies, physical and geographical characteristics of their basins, water, thermal
ice regime, their significance and use, as well as attention is paid to students of meteorology
consideration of the following issues - the formation of river runoff as the main source of fresh water, the impact on
water flow of climatic factors, geological conditions, relief, depth of erosion cut, soil
cover and vegetation, lakes and swamps, as well as emphasis is placed on the role of natural waters
in the functioning of ecosystems, the impact of human economic activity on water resources and their
rational use.
