Prerequisites and co-requisites
The course is aimed at students who have passed the course ‘General English’ (1 semester/2 semester). Students are expected: to know main linguistic terms and be able to apply linguistic inventory to their analysis; to know a range of lexis and grammatical forms required to understand video recordings at B2 level (CEFR); to demonstrate listening comprehension in a variety of registers.
Course content
The course is designed to improve the general level of English, further develop listening and speaking skills and raise cultural awareness. The course is focused on combining different types of speech activities and improving the skills of interpreting and processing information through visualization. It includes a variety of videos, which cover a wide range of areas of communication.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The teaching methods are practical classes and students’ individual work (projects). The course is delivered with the help of such activities as oral reports, written tasks, students’ projects and tests.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course ends with an exam. Students’ performance during the term is the sum of the points accumulated for their work in classroom and individual work. Formative assessment: Oral (written) reports – 1-5 points; the minimum score for the term is 15, maximum – 20; Individual work (students’ projects) – 1-5 points; the minimum score for the term is 6, the maximum score is 10; Tests – 1-10 points; the minimum score for the term is 15, the maximum score is 30. Summative assessment: written test (20 points), linguistic analysis (5 points), grammar topic (5 points), oral topic (10 points). The minimum score for the term is 36 points, the maximum score equals 60. The minimum score for the exam is 24 and the maximum score is 40.
