Learning outcomes
Know the basic terminological and conceptual apparatus of the Paleolithic.
To know the general cultural and chronological periodization of the Paleolithic of Africa and Europe.
To know the main sources of the study of the Paleolithic of the Old World.
To know the main types of archaeological monuments and the methods and procedures of researching archaeological monuments of the Paleolithic era.
To be able to characterize (determine features that are characteristic and inherent) cultural and chronological stages of the lower, middle and upper Paleolithic of the Old World.
To be able to identify and evaluate the stone industries of the Paleolithic of Africa and Europe.
To be able to determine the methods of research of cultural layers and archaeological monuments of Paleolithic monuments.
To be able to determine the main technological schemes of stone production in the Paleolithic.
To be able to analyze cultural phenomena and natural and climatic changes in the Paleolithic.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Before starting the course, students should know the main general historical processes and events of World History and the History of Ukraine.
2. To be able to determine the main stages of historical events in the process of the development of mankind from the earliest times to the appearance of the first written sources and the emergence of states.
3. Possess elementary skills of initial systematization and distribution of various historical sources and cultural-historical phenomena; the specificity of the program requires the use of foreign language sources.
Course content
The content of the course is divided into 2 content modules. Each content module includes lectures, seminars, independent work of students, which are completed by rating control of the level of assimilation of knowledge of the program material of the corresponding part of the course. Content module 1 (СМ1) includes topics 1-4, topics 5-8 are included in content module 2 (СМ2).

Assessment methods and criteria
The control of the student's knowledge is carried out according to the modular rating system. The total number of student points is formed by the semester points received from all topics of two content modules (points received for modular control papers (in the form of tests); points received for completing individual tasks; points received for work in seminar classes, as well as points which are received for the final control work.
The results of students' educational activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale.
The criteria for evaluating a student's answer are:
• complete disclosure of the issue
• the logic of presentation
• use of basic and additional literature
• analytical reasoning, the ability to draw conclusions
