Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) Know: the specifics of the development of social work as a field of scientific knowledge and professional practice abroad and in Ukraine; the main categories and concepts of social work; key legal and regulatory documents governing the activities of social workers; and methods of social workers’ practice with different client groups.
2) Be able to: interpret key terms and concepts of social work and correctly apply them in the appropriate context; identify explanations for new challenges in social work with a focus on selecting methods, approaches, technologies, and solutions.
3) Possess basic skills in: public communication and activity planning.
Course content
Objective of the course: to develop students’ integrated understanding of the key concepts, methods, and practices of social work in conditions of crises and societal transformations.
The course aims to familiarize students with the main concepts, methods, and practices of social work in crisis contexts and periods of societal change. Students are expected to use innovative approaches to support vulnerable population groups.
The course content is structured into three modules:
The first module, “Social Work as a Social Phenomenon, Professional Activity, and Field of Science in Conditions of Crises and Societal Transformations,” the second module, “Contemporary Classification of Theories and Concepts of Social Work in Conditions of Crises and Societal Transformations,” and the third module, “Contemporary Practices of Social Work in Conditions of Crises and Societal Transformations.”

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, seminar session, independent study assignments, Zoom, and other means of distance communication.
Assessment methods and criteria
Survey. Discussion. Completion of written assignments. Form of assessment – examination.
Oral responses (presentation at seminars, participation in discussions, debates, and additional contributions): max 20 / min 11 points.
Practical assignments (analysis of primary sources, work with scientific publications, demonstration of practical skills): max 15 / min 9 points.
Independent study assignments (work with scientific sources, demonstration of practical skills): max 15 / min 9 points.
Final test (MC): max 10 / min 7 points.
The examination is conducted in written form; the exam ticket includes theoretical questions and one practical task and covers LO 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.1, 4.1. The maximum number of points for the examination is 40. To obtain a positive overall grade in the course, the examination score cannot be less than 24 points.
