Prerequisites and co-requisites
The study of this discipline involves the integration of interdisciplinary links with the following subjects: Methods of Teaching Ukrainian, Pedagogy, Psychology, Ukrainian Language, and Fundamentals of Linguistics. Students are expected to demonstrate knowledge of the theoretical aspects of the Ukrainian language, the processes of language formation and functioning, as well as the approaches, methods, techniques, resources, and forms of organising Ukrainian language teaching. They should be able to define the aims and content of Ukrainian language teaching; design and implement teaching methods and approaches; assess and provide feedback on learners’ knowledge, skills, and competences; analyse scholarly literature on teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language; and develop detailed lesson plans for Ukrainian as a foreign language.
Course content
The discipline is designed to develop students’ competence in teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language to learners in secondary education institutions. The discipline is delivered in Semester VI and carries 3 ECTS credits. The course consists of two content modules. Module 1 covers the subject matter and objectives, as well as key issues in the methodology of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language; the main principles, methods, forms, and resources of instruction; and includes an analysis of curricula and textbooks in Ukrainian for learners in Years 5 9 (with Hungarian, Polish, Moldovan, and Romanian as languages of instruction). The module also focuses on teaching core language components: pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. Module 2 focuses on developing skills in reading, listening, speaking, and writing in Ukrainian as a foreign language.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The main forms of instruction and teaching methods provided by the programme include lectures, practical classes, independent study, modular assessment tests, and a final credit test, as well as participation in practical classes, heuristic discussions, and project-based learning.
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester grade is composed of the points obtained by the student for performance in practical classes (maximum 18, minimum 9 points), preparation and presentation of projects (20/12 points), completion of the modular assessment test (40/24 points), and the final credit test (22/15 points). A student may obtain a maximum of 100 points over the course of the semester. The discipline is completed with a pass/fail assessment (credit).
