Course content
The course consists of three parts: 1) comparative phonetics, 2) comparative morphology, and 3) comparative syntax of the East Slavic languages. The course explains the nature and purpose of the comparative method using grammatical material from languages that share a single (Proto-Slavic) origin and have been in contact with one another for a long time. Based on comparative-typological observations in diachronic and synchronic aspects, the course examines both the common features of the grammatical systems of the East Slavic languages and the unique national specificity of each, resulting from the formation and evolution of a particular East Slavic language, with the development of its own methods of word formation, their combinability, and stylistic characteristics; grammatical categories are described with active use of academic grammars, dictionaries, online resources, and text corpora of East Slavic languages. The study of this discipline is essential for the training of linguists conducting applied research in the information space, and serves as an important theoretical and practical foundation for mastering professional skills in the fields of linguistics of influence and translation.
