Learning outcomes
LOP 8. Know and understand the structure of language, the general characteristics of literature as a verbal art, the history of East Slavic languages, and the distinctive features of the development of East Slavic literatures, and be able to apply this knowledge in professional practice. LOP 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folk art, identify their specific characteristics and place in the East Slavic historical and literary process. LOP 15. Conduct linguistic (phonetic, morphemic, word-formation, morphological, syntactic, semantic) and literary analysis of texts of various styles and genres, as well as use the tools of applied linguistics to counter hybrid threats to society and ensure the state’s information security. LOP 16. Know and understand the basic concepts, theories, and concepts of the chosen philological specialization (primarily in contact linguistics and translation studies), and be able to apply them in professional practice.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students must successfully complete the following courses: “Introduction to Literary Studies,” “Introduction to Applied Linguistics,” “Foreign Literature,” and “Latin” and be familiar with: ● the characteristics of literary and cultural discourse, as well as the socio-historical factors of the current period; ● the patterns of the artistic worldview; ● the Slavic component of European and global literary discourse; be able to: ● analyze specialized academic literature; ● use media resources as part of professional training in the context of information warfare; ● apply knowledge of European and other languages when working with information sources possess basic cognitive skills ● for working with literary-linguistic and sociocultural materials; ● study modern methods of communicative strategies reflected in literary and cultural variants; ● predict the argumentative structure of literary and artistic texts.
Course content
This course focuses on the most significant and challenging issues of the contemporary period, viewed through a literature-centered lens in both European and global contexts. It examines the contemporary East Slavic literary process as a humanistic dimension of Ukraine’s national security. The civilizational choice of Ukrainian literature serves as a guiding principle for current East Slavic studies. It reveals the leading trends in the development of the contemporary literary process as a productive system of artistic and cultural discourse from the mid-20th to the early 21st century and is aimed not only at familiarizing students with the leading ideas that have taken shape in Ukrainian literature during this period, but also with the genre and stylistic trends in prose, poetry, and drama. In the course of studying this discipline, acquired knowledge is deepened and refined, and students are introduced to the main philosophical, literary, and cultural concepts of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, as well as a detailed analysis of the creative works of the most prominent writers; the study of figurative devices in poetry, prose, and drama; the examination of compositional mastery, genre forms, and so on; the interpretation of the national content and form of East Slavic literatures; the identification of the diversity of genre forms, and so on; identifying typological affinities between the works of Ukrainian and foreign (Polish, Serbian, Bulgarian, etc.) authors; examining the dynamics of the development of traditions and innovation, as well as stylistic explorations in Ukrainian and Western European literatures; understanding the differences in writers’ individual creative styles and the patterns of change in literary styles, movements, trends, etc. The concept of contemporary East Slavic literatures involves the application of the latest methods of literary research to contemporary texts.
