PLO19. To be familiar with various linguistic schools and movements (literary schools and trends), critically analyze historical achievements and the latest developments in linguistic (literary) science, and demonstrate one’s own interpretation of literary (linguistic) phenomena.
PLO22. To apply various linguistic and literary research methods and systematic analysis of literary texts, and identify their compositional, genre, and stylistic features.
PLO23. To apply in-depth knowledge of the theory of the Ukrainian language (literature) to solve professional tasks, and freely use specialized terminology in the field of Ukrainian philological research.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before starting this course, the students of Master’s degree should know the basic definitions of linguistics and literary studies, the connections between linguistics and literary studies with other humanities disciplines, and the main historical stages in the development of national philological science.
Be able to apply the categorical apparatus of linguistics and literary studies while analyzing scientific, journalistic, artistic texts, discussions, etc.; justify one's own point of view based on theoretical knowledge; conduct independent research work while processing creative tasks; use interactive and multimedia tools.
Possess basic research and information management skills; a critical attitude toward analyzed phenomena; the ability to produce complex oral and written messages; to possess the interactive and cooperative skills in learning the research situations.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to develop in master's students the knowledge of dominating scientific linguistic and literary concepts, mastery of the appropriate terminological system, to be familiar with important trends in contemporary language and literature research as complex nation-building and sociocultural phenomena; to cultivate critical thinking skills and the application of necessary research methodology, the ability to argue one's own opinion, supported by factual and illustrative material in further pedagogical activities.
Annotation. The discipline is aimed at forming in students the ability to master the terminological systems of linguistics and literary studies, at knowledge of socio-cultural and geopolitical phenomena of the modern world that determine language policy and paths of cultural interaction; knowledge of fundamental linguistic and literary concepts used by contemporary humanities; mastery of methods for teaching the Ukrainian language and literature as academic subjects in secondary school, incorporating the scientific achievements of the humanities of the early 21st century.
The course is conducted in Ukrainian language and combines the following forms of learning: lectures and practical classes, independent work, as well as teaching methods: problem lecture, discussion, educational conversation, research work. The main types of work that students are involved in and which are assessed throughout the semester are: participation in practical classes, presentations, creative work (essay, review), and the midterm control. To complete the prescribed types of work, a student can get a maximum of 60 points and a minimum of 36 points. The course ends with exam.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered in Ukrainian through a mixture of lectures, practical sessions, independent learning, and the following methods are used: problem solving lecture, research, and project work. Major activities performed by the students include classroom discussions, educational presentation, individual/group project, and module tests. A student can score a maximum of 60 points and a minimum of 36 points for these activities that are components of formative assessment. The course ends with an exam.
Assessment methods and criteria
During the semester, the following types of assignments are assessed: participation in a practical class, presentation, creative work, and midterm control. A student can score a maximum of 60 points and a minimum of 36 points, specifically: for practical classes, a student can get a maximum of 36 points and a minimum of 18 points; for presentations – a maximum of 8 points and a minimum of 6 points; for creative work – a maximum of 8 points and a minimum of 6 points. The course ends with an exam. The overall grade consists of points for activities throughout the semester (maximum - 60 points, minimum - 36 points) and the final assessment in the form of an exam (maximum - 40 points, minimum - 24 points). The exam is conducted in written form (a written assignment with open-ended answers to four theoretical questions, each graded with a maximum of 10 points) based on the learning outcomes: LO 1.1-1.5; LO 2.1-2.6; LO 4.2.
