Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know: 1) the subject matter covered in previous courses; 2) the basic principles of analysis and criteria for evaluating source texts, as well as lexical, grammatical, syntactic, and stylistic issues in translation. Be able to: 1) apply the phonetic rules, grammatical structures, and syntactic rules of the Turkish language in practice. Possess: 1) written translation skills.
Course content
The course «Translation of Media Discourse Texts» is one of the components of the elective module «Linguistics and Translation» within the comprehensive training program for the 035 «Philology», major «Turkish Language and Literature, English Language and Translation», and an integral part of developing the professional competence of future translators and specialists in the field of the Turkish language. The course is aimed at an in-depth study of audiovisual translation methods, particularly in the field of media discourse. Throughout the course, students learn the methodology of consecutive and simultaneous interpretation of audiovisual texts and refine their written translation skills. The course focuses on practical translation skills for the media sector and film industry, as well as expanding vocabulary. The course «Translation of Media Discourse Texts» comprises 90 hours, including 36 hours of practical classes and 54 hours of independent study. The course program consists of two content modules and two module exams. Instruction is conducted in the form of practical sessions. The course concludes with an exam.
