Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know: 1) Successful completion of the courses “History of Old Turkic Literature and Folklore”; “Fundamentals of Literature in the Turkic World”; “Divan Literature.” Be able to: 1) conduct literary and linguistic analysis of works of Turkish folklore, identify their structural and stylistic features; 2) interpret traditional motifs (numbers, colors, magical objects) and folk symbolism in texts. Possess: 1) the ability to explain complex philological and ethnographic phenomena in the context of modern Turkish culture; 2) the ability to assess the influence of folk tradition on the development of modern Turkish literature.
Course content
The interdisciplinary course «History of literature in the turkic world», Part 4: «Folk literature», introduces students to the typology and poetics of ashug art, as well as the characteristics of oral folk poetry, religious and mystical folk poetry, and ashug poetry; examines the social environments of ashugs and forms of upbringing; analyzes the emergence of ashug schools and the practice of compiling notebooks—jonks; and develops an understanding of the classification of ashugs by social status: rural poets, urban poets, janissary poets, and traveling poets. The course aims to familiarize students with turkish ashug art, which includes epic destans, songs celebrating the freedom and heroism of the people; satirical and humorous songs celebrating friendship and love, as well as to study the poetry of the Tekke period of the Divan from the 13th to the 16th centuries. Course structure: Classes are conducted in the form of lectures, practical sessions, and independent study. The course concludes with a credit.

Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level assessment of the material learned, in particular, the assessment of theoretical training, which accounts for 60% of the total grade, and the assessment of practical training, which accounts for 80% of the total grade. Assessment of semester work: 1. Answer at a practical lesson (oral): 5 - 15 points. 2. Creative tasks: 15 - 25 points. 3. Module test №1: 10 - 20 points. 4. Module test № 2: 10 - 20 points. 5. Credit: 12 - 20 points.
