LO7. Understand the main issues in philology and approaches to addressing them, using appropriate methods and innovative approaches. LO8. Know and understand the structure of language, the general characteristics of literature as a verbal art, and the history of foreign/English language and literature, and be able to apply this knowledge in professional practice. Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know: 1) the basics of literary and linguistic terminology in accordance with secondary school curricula. Be able to: 1) successfully master the skills of analyzing and interpreting language at all levels of its structure in accordance with secondary school curricula. Possess: 1) skills in analyzing grammatical forms and syntactic constructions, as well as basic elementary skills in etymological analysis.
Course content
The discipline "Latin" introduces students to the origin of the Latin alphabet, the phonetic system of the Latin language, the basics of noun, adjective, pronoun, numeral and verb morphology in comparison with Ukrainian and modern European languages, frequency vocabulary in order to conduct etymological and structural-semantic analysis of Latin terms and prepare for the translation and interpretation of excerpts from ancient Roman literature. The aim of the course is to equip students with knowledge of the fundamental principles of linguistic theory, so that they can apply this knowledge in analyzing specific linguistic phenomena in Latin, and to equip students with theoretical knowledge of the fundamentals of Latin grammar and syntax, as well as the skills to perform etymological analysis of words borrowed from Latin into modern European languages.

Assessment methods and criteria
The control of knowledge is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level assessment of the material learned, in particular, the assessment of theoretical training - learning outcomes (knowledge 1.1 - 1.5), which is 40% of the total grade, and the assessment of practical training - learning outcomes (skills 2.1-2.4); (communication 3.1); (autonomy and responsibility 4.1), which is 60% of the total grade. Assessment of semester work: 1.Oral response: 24 - 40 points. 2. Additions, participation in the discussion: 8 - 16 points. 3. Control work with open answers: 8 - 12 points. 4. Creative task: 8 - 12 points. 5. Final control work: 12 - 20 points.
