Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the courses Research Methodology and Organization with Fundamentals of Intellectual Property and Translation Theory. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of general translation studies, as well as research methodology and philosophy of science. Proficiency in the state language and English at a level not lower than C1; skills in using information technologies for conducting research.
Course content
The course aims to develop systematic theoretical knowledge and practical skills in academic speaking and writing in English and Ukrainian, as well as in the design of research projects at all stages of their implementation from a translation studies perspective. The course Academic Speaking and Research Design: An English–Ukrainian Comparative Perspective is a compulsory component of the educational programme Literary Translation from English, Literary Editing, and Translation Project Management. The course is designed to develop competencies in academic communication and research design within the field of translation studies, including skills in producing, editing, translating, and critically analyzing academic texts. Particular emphasis is placed on the planning, implementation, and presentation of research findings.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The educational process for the course Academic Speaking and Research Design: An English–Ukrainian Comparative Perspective is delivered through lectures, practical classes, and independent student work. Lectures aim to establish the theoretical foundations of academic communication in Ukrainian and English, familiarize students with genre and stylistic features of academic texts, and introduce the principles and methodology of research design, particularly from a translation studies perspective. Practical classes focus on applying theoretical knowledge in producing, analyzing, editing, and translating academic texts, as well as developing skills in modelling one’s own research project. Teaching methods include written and oral tasks, preparation of analytical reports and presentations, writing academic texts (articles, abstracts), modelling research in translation studies, and participation in academic discussions and conference presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria
Throughout the semester, assessment is conducted in accordance with the types of tasks and forms of control specified in Section 7.1. Pass/Fail (Semester 2): Student performance is assessed based on learning activities carried out during the semester without additional forms of assessment. Students who obtain at least 60 points are awarded a “pass,” while those with fewer points receive a “fail.” If the minimum threshold is not achieved, the student must complete additional tasks to remedy academic underperformance. Examination (Semester 3): Assessment is based on the results of continuous assessment and the final examination. The final grade is calculated as the sum of points earned במהלך the semester (60 points) and the examination (40 points). The minimum required score for the examination is 24 points; if a lower score is obtained, it is not added to the semester grade. 90–100—excellent (5)/pass; 75–89—good (4)/pass; 60–74—satisfactory (3)/pass; 0–59—unsatisfactory (2)/fail.
