Learning outcomes
PLO 6. To apply knowledge of expressive, emotional, and logical language means, as well as speech techniques, in order to achieve the intended pragmatic effect and ensure effective communication. PLO 10. To collect and systematize linguistic, literary, and folklore data, and to interpret and translate texts of various styles and genres (depending on the language). PLO 11. To carry out scholarly analysis of linguistic, speech, and literary material, to interpret and structure it in accordance with appropriate methodological principles, and to formulate generalizations based on independently processed data. PLO 14. To create, analyze, and edit texts of various styles and genres. PLO 20. To understand the criteria of translation proficiency, to perform translation and stylistic analysis of texts of various styles and genres, and to professionally interpret and edit literary works.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
• Successful completion of the courses “History of Translation,” “Classical Theories of Translation: Genre and Analytical Aspects,” “Stylistic Analysis of Contemporary Literature,” and “Translation Studies in Folklore Research,” as well as courses that provide knowledge of stylistic variation in literary language (English and Ukrainian). • Knowledge of the norms of the contemporary Ukrainian literary language and orthography, as well as the ability to apply theoretical principles of translation studies and literary studies in the analysis, interpretation, and stylistic processing of literary texts. • Proficiency in creative and critical thinking; the ability to translate literary texts of varying complexity (prose, drama, poetry), to analyze them, to write critical essays, to carry out reviews, to demonstrate self-editing skills, to work with dictionaries, and to conduct research activities.
Course content
The aim of the course is to develop a system of knowledge and professional skills in the field of editing literary translations as an integral component of translation activity, involving an understanding of their aesthetic, semiotic, interpretative, and stylistic specificity, as well as the ability to conduct a comprehensive analysis of both source and target texts in order to address professional tasks of the editor and self-editor, including the interpretation and professional editing of literary texts. The course “Fundamentals of Literary Editing of Translated Texts” is a compulsory component of the educational programme “Literary Translation from English, Literary Editing, and Translation Project Management” and is aimed at developing professional competencies in the field of editing literary translations. The course is oriented toward the development of skills in analyzing and interpreting source and translated texts, evaluating the adequacy of rendering content and artistic form, and performing stylistic editing of translated texts with due consideration of the author’s style and communicative intent.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The educational process is implemented through lectures, practical classes, and independent student work. Lectures are aimed at establishing the theoretical foundations of literary editing of translated texts, while practical classes focus on developing skills in analysis, editing, and critical evaluation of translations. Teaching methods include written and oral tasks of a translation, editorial, and analytical nature, preparation of editorial commentaries, comparative analysis and reviewing of translations, as well as the presentation of the results of individual and group work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Throughout the semester, practical classes are conducted during which continuous assessment of students’ learning outcomes is carried out in accordance with the types of tasks and forms of control (Section 7.1). The final result is determined by the total number of points accumulated during the semester and the examination. Final assessment is conducted in the form of an examination: 60 points (60%) are awarded for coursework during the semester and 40 points (40%) for the examination. Students who have obtained at least 36 points (60% of the maximum for the semester) are admitted to the examination. If a student scores fewer than 24 points on the examination, the total number of points is recorded and a “fail” grade is assigned. Assessment is carried out on a 100-point scale with subsequent conversion into the national grading system: 90–100 – excellent (5); 85–89 – good (4); 75–84 – good; 65–74 – satisfactory (3); 60–64 – satisfactory; 0–59 – unsatisfactory (2).
