Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Confidently speak the state language, New Greek and English to realize
written and oral communication, in particular in situations of professional and scientific communication;
present research results in the state and foreign languages. PLO 3. Apply
modern methods and technologies, including information, for successful and effective
to carry out professional activities and ensure the quality of research in a particular
philological field. PLO 10. Collect and systematize linguistic and literary facts,
analyze folklore facts, interpret and translate texts of different styles and genres
of the New Greek and English languages. ELO 14. Create, analyze and edit original
and translated texts of different styles and genres. PLO 23.2. Apply knowledge of
peculiarities of translation of poetry, drama, prose works in their translation
in their translation activities.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the internship requires: 1) knowledge of the New Greek language at the level of B2-C1,
good command of Ukrainian; 2) knowledge of translation terminology,
methods of translation analysis; 3) knowledge of the types of translation difficulties and types of
types of translation transformations used to solve them; 4) ability to analyze the original text and
to analyze the original text in the source language and synthesize a new text in the native or foreign language
or foreign language; 5) ability to use modern search engines,
electronic and printed reference resources.
Course content
Translation practice is the logical conclusion of the theoretical and practical training of
of a philologist and a test of his/her acquired competencies in the field of theory and practice
literary translation and intercultural communication. The translation practice lasts a total of
6 weeks and takes place on a part-time basis at the Department of General Linguistics,
Classical Philology and Neo-Hellenic Studies, the Andriy Biletsky Center for Hellenistic Studies and Greek Culture (Kyiv National University).
Andrii Biletskyi Center for Hellenic Studies and Greek Culture (KNUTS), Odesa branch of the Foundation for Greek Culture or other institutions
(in accordance with the agreements on the practice bases). It involves the development of work skills
students in the field of cultural life: translation of works of fiction, historical
biographical, literary, and critical materials on significant cultural
figures, materials for exhibitions, presentations and video projects, translation support of
of relevant events (online/offline).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Types of work: Cognitive reading of the original text, familiarization with texts on the relevant
topics in Ukrainian. Identification of lexical, grammatical and syntactic
translation difficulties and ways to solve them. Preparation of a preliminary
of the translated text. General editing of the translation text (spelling, graphic design,
design similar to that of the original text or in accordance with the requirements of the supervisor
of the internship from the institution where the student is doing the internship). Editing the translated text
at the lexical and grammatical levels. Stylistic editing of the translated text.
A written report of the student in any form, which should indicate the terms of
of the internship, the place of completion, and the scope of the tasks performed. Translation analysis of
of the original text/texts the student worked with and a glossary. Feedback from the institution where
the student did the internship. Defense of reporting materials.
Assessment methods and criteria
The results of students' internships are evaluated on a 100-point scale.
grade (100 points) is formed by the sum of the points obtained by the assessment of the head of the practice before
defense of the internship (60 points) and the final control (40 points). A student who has not completed
the internship program in full and received an unsatisfactory grade, passes
the internship repeatedly.
