Learning outcomes
To know the latest opinions in the theory of international law on the explanation of its nature, content, creation of norms and their effectiveness, and the nature and content of its basic institutes; legal instruments to ensure respect for the rule of international law in international relations; internal instruments and mechanisms established in international law and affecting its development; the role of international organizations in shaping policies for the international law development; and mechanisms for political influence on the implementation of international law; the international legal consequences of the influence of policies on the legally "unfinished" international law institutions and their overcoming.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
- Knowledge of the foundations of the theory of law and state; knowledge of the foundations of the theory of international law, its main branches and the application practice of international legal norms; - Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of international relations; - The ability to study, analyse, evaluate and summarize facts, trends and difficulties in the international law development. - Acquired skills of analytical research and analysis of the nature, types and forms of international legal cooperation.
Course content
Thematic plan of the discipline: 1. International law and the challenges of the 21st century. 2. Theoretical and practical aspects of the problem of amplification of the international law subjects. 3. Theoretical and practical aspects of the problem of amplification of international law sources. 4. Current problems in the theory and practice of international law. 5. Maintenance of international security and protection of the world order as a key issue in international legal regulation at the end of the 20th- beginning of 21st century. 6. Self-determination of peoples and the emergence of new states: basic theoretical and practical approaches to its international legal settlement. 7. The development problem and its settlement by international legal means. 8. Unification and effectiveness of international law.

Assessment methods and criteria
Evaluation is carried out according to the modular rating system. Current control: answers (up to 48 points), written assignment (up to 22 points), final modular test (up to 30 points). The form of final control is a final test. The final test is conducted in writing. The student's answer to the final test – up to 40 points.
